About Me

Captain (ret) Nikki R. Renfroe

Nikki Renfroe is a veteran of the Georgia State Patrol where she proudly served until her retirement on May 1, 2022, after earning 30 years of creditable service. During her tenure she patrolled the highways and worked in various assignments throughout the State, to include crisis (hostage) negotiator, traffic crash reconstructionist, and recruiter.

In 2007, she obtained the rank of Lieutenant and was assigned to Troop C in Atlanta. In 2011, she was appointed to the rank of Captain and assigned as Troop Commander in Troop D, a 28-county region in central and west Georgia. This was a historic moment in the organization’s history since it marked the first time an African American female had achieved that rank and the first time a female had carried the title of Troop Commander.

In August of 2014, she was transferred to Troop C to take command over State Patrol operations in the 5-county metro Atlanta area, where she was responsible for approximately 100 State troopers and over 45 support personnel. She led during some of the most significant times to include protests, civil unrest, and with the planning, coordination, and successful execution of at least 40 dignitary escorts of sitting U.S. Presidents, U.S. Vice Presidents, U.S. First Ladies, U.S. Second Ladies, Former Presidents and Vice Presidents, and a host of other prominent statesmen.

In October of 2020, she was appointed to the Office of Planning and Research and assigned to the Commissioner’s Office. This role afforded her an opportunity to examine agency staffing, salary/benefits and their correlation with recruiting and retention.

She has worked extensively in traffic incident management and served as co-Chair for the Traffic Incident Management Enhancement (TIME) Task Force in Georgia from 2014-2021. Her work in traffic safety has afforded her opportunities to sit on committees in coordination with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT), and the Traffic Safety Committee for the National Sheriff’s Association (NSA).

Her work in traffic and public safety continued after retirement. She currently serves as the founding co-Chair of the Traffic Safety Committee for the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE). In addition, she serves on the national Law Enforcement Committee for Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), and continues her involvement with the Traffic Safety Committee for the National Sheriff’s association.

In 2023, she served as Interim Police Chief at Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville, GA.  She gladly accepted the position, for this allowed her to serve in her hometown and reconnect with the local community. Her involvement with campus safety further amplified her decades-long commitment of working to create safer environments for the public.

Captain Renfroe is a graduate of Columbus State University, Georgia Law Enforcement Command College, and the FBI National Academy (NA 236).  She is a member of the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE) and is a Leadership Georgia alum (2011). She is the founder of the Nikki R. Renfroe Emerging Leader Prep School Scholarship, at Georgia Military Prep School, that provides tuition assistance for minority high school students from single parent homes.
